Raising broilers

Track a broiler Lot from chick arrival to harvest.

Before you start

Create the site and house and confirm chicks received from your hatchery or supplier.

Place the lot

The Place a lot form with Broiler selected as the vertical and New placement as the starting point.

  1. Choose Lots > + New lot > Broiler > New placement.
  2. Pick site and house; enter bird count, placement date and breed.
  3. Set age in days for older chicks; leave blank for day-olds.
  4. Keep the Recommended schedules you want (brooding checks, weighing, vaccination, and lighting for Ross 308).
  5. Check the house's suggested housing system and submit.

Today's targets

For Ross 308 and Cobb 500, Overview shows Today's targets for the flock's age: house temperature for the first 3-4 weeks, hours and brightness of light and target weight. Ross 308 also shows humidity; the Cobb guide sets temperature by humidity instead of a humidity target. Arbor Acres Plus shows humidity and light only, because its guide sets temperature by chick weight rather than age. The i button names the breed guide the figures come from. Compare them with your readings and the birds' behaviour; they never block a record.

Daily flock records

A broiler lot's Overview tab: a meat withdrawal banner, then birds alive, FCR, mortality, breed, house and housing system.

Open the flock and choose the record you need:

  • Record mortality: enter Additional deaths and optional cause. Edit recorded total corrects an existing day's total with a reason.
  • Record feed used: enter kilograms and check the suggested Feed item. A stocked item draws stock; a direct-purchase item was already charged.
  • Feed > Edit: select the contribution, review before/after and give a reason.
  • Not fed: explain an intentional zero on a missing day. This also stops automatic feed generation for that day.

Today so far always shows today, even while recording an earlier date.

Reconcile the bird count

Physically count birds, then use Lot actions > Reconcile count.

Correcting and backfilling records

Check Feed on the selected date and pending Queued decisions before editing. Retry Feed state checks unavailable history. Additional use can queue offline; corrections and Not fed need checked history with no queued decisions. Corrections retain the original record.

Backfill missed Feed days

Use Feed round > Historical, choose up to 31 days and Preview records. Check historical birds, phase, estimated quantity, stock and cost before confirming online. Use Manual capture for measured figures; date changes must reload the day's context first.

Record weight samples

The Weight round, with a box for each bird's weight in grams and the previous sample shown for comparison.

Choose Record weight, enter each bird's grams separated by commas, and check sample size, average and uniformity. For several Lots, use Lots > Weight round, select date/Lots, review and confirm. Each submission is a new sample; retry rejected samples only. Retry history refreshes unavailable prior samples; new samples can still queue offline.

Treatments

Use Health. Active medication withdrawal can block harvest.

Review records in the Events tab

Filter Events by type or date for mortality, placement and other lifecycle records. Rows link to the audit trail. Records with their own tabs stay there.

Harvest

  1. Choose Record harvest; enter birds, total live weight and carcass grade. Destination is optional; + Add note adds optional notes.
  2. Choose Save and review Lot, date, counts and weight.
  3. Choose Confirm harvest, or Back to edit to change details.

Nothing posts before confirmation. Staged harvests are allowed. Active withdrawal blocks harvest, and removals cannot exceed live birds or continue after closeout. Correct earlier counts if a removal is refused.

Close out the lot

Once every bird is harvested or accounted for, choose Lot actions > Close lot. Placed birds must balance harvested, died and audited shrinkage.

What you get

Use Overview for live birds, FCR and growth; Feed for Actual, Estimated, Not fed and Missing days and their cost source. Health, Finance and Events hold detail.
